THREE’S THE MAGIC NUMBER

By DAVID WATSON, CLIENT SERVICES DIRECTOR

You wait weeks for a great new starter, then three come along at once. Joining the ranks here at DC are Junior Creative, Abbie Malton, Account Executive, Elliot Hall, and Digital Account Executive, Hannah Wood. As has become tradition, we asked them a bunch of probing questions to see if three actually is the magic number (spoiler: it is).

Abbie

What are you most looking forward to about working at DC?

I’m mainly excited to be surrounded by such ambitious and passionate creatives. It’s amazing to be part of an agency that strives for better and constantly pushes their creative potential.

If you could ask aliens any question, what would it be?

Are you an alien? Because you are out of this world.

If you had unlimited money, what would you spend your time doing?

Why would you retire when you could do everything, help everyone, maybe start my own agency, skydive on the weekend and everything in between.

What are your top 5 work snacks and why?

  1. Free weekly Greggs sausage roll – it would be rude not to.
  2. Coffee from the good old Franke machine – quality and well-needed.
  3. Canny Beans –  they are already all around the office.
  4. Sushi – a little bouji for a Hull girl, but I love it.
  5. Fridge Friday beverages – makes me next-level excited.

What are you most looking forward to about working at DC?

Aside from the client work, I'm looking forward to all of the agency events. There's so much to get involved in. I've already volunteered at St Oswalds Hospice, attended a World Mental Health Day Coffee Morning and I can't wait for the DC bake off. The culture here is really great and I'm grateful to be a part of it.

What is your biggest fear? And why do you have that fear?

I can't go near polystyrene. I think it's the texture and the noise it makes, but touching polystyrene literally gives me shivers.

What are 3 things you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love food, cooking and baking sourdough bread in particular. If I'm not cooking dinner, I'm probably going out for it. Newcastle has such a thriving food scene – there are loads of amazing cafés and restaurants popping up all the time. I also enjoy running and completed my first ever Great North Run in September.

What is the one song that will make you get up and dance, and why?

It's not really one you can dance to, but the last song that got me up and onto the karaoke mic was 'Bring Me to Life' by Evanescence. Not my usual cup of tea, but apparently I know all of the lyrics .

Hannah

What are you most looking forward to about working at DC?

Working with a range of ambitious digital clients, and the free weekly Greggs Sausage Roll obvs. Also, just being part of a really nice working culture – everyone is so welcoming and positive, it’s a great environment.

What’s the funniest movie you’ve ever seen?

I would have to say We’re The Millers. If you don’t know it, in summary a fake family try to smuggle drugs from Mexico to the US, and they make friends with a weird family. I was howling when the ‘baby’ got run over by a massive lorry (if you don’t know, get to know!)

Do you have a saying or motto you live by? If so, why do you live by it and where did you hear it from?

Work hard, play hard, sleep well. This was my grandad’s motto, which has been passed down from my mum. I certainly lived by this through university, in terms of putting 100% into my assignments and exams, but then celebrating with (probably too many) drinks too.

What is an unpopular opinion that you have?

Ryan Gosling isn't that attractive. I just don’t really see it – he’s got nothing on Channing Tatum.
