Bet you haven’t heard that one before?
Yep, it’s the time of year to eat, drink and see the family members you don’t want to. But it’s also the time when brands bring out their Christmas spirit, and I’m not just talking about booze.
There’s definitely a whiff of Christmas wordplay in the air, but is jumping on the punwagon such a copywriting crime? It’s safe to say some Christmas puns have been done to death, but even if you’re trying to come up with something new, there’s bound to be overlaps.
But if a pun’s relevant, is it really all that bad? This year, some brands have created a whole new meaning to a Christmas pun, and have mimicked some of their competitors in the process.
Although the mocking’s frowned upon by some, it’s got people talking, and it’s definitely made them laugh – me included. So what do I really think about the Christmas punny season? If it’s executed right, they work a treat.
