“It’s football,” exclaimed a sarcastically effervescent David Mitchell in an old sketch for That Mitchell and Webb Look. “It’s all here and it’s all football, always. Thousands and thousands of hours of football, each more climactic than the last!”

It may have felt like that during the group stages of the World Cup, with several games per day and all the commercial breaks bursting at the seams with footie-related goodness.
